In the wake of Fathers Day, two of the more famous composers fathers were also composers in their own right. Wolfgang Mozart's father Leopold Mozart (1719-1787) Richard Strauss' father Franz Strauss (1822-1904) were both important composers but were overshadowed by their sons. Richard Strauss is not related in any way to Johan Strauss Jr. and his family. Several other members of this family were also great composers. Wolfgang Mozart's wife was a cousin of another famous composer Carl a von Weber. Leopold wrote a book on playing the violin which was published in 1756 the year of Wolfgang's birth and is still read by violin students today.
Leopold Mozart 's most famous work is his Toy Symphony. he also wrote concerti and other works. He did not composer most of his later life. He was more busy developing his son Wolfgang.
The elder Strauss was a horn player (French Horn) He wrote a horn concerto and other pieces for the horn. he was the principle horn player for the Bavarian Court Opera.
Bothe were overshadowed by the reputations of their sons. Both Wolfgang and Richard were important I could talk about both of their music for hours and write pages up on pages about them and their works. Many other important composers came from musical families such as Johan Sebastian Bach. Three of bach's Sons were also important composers in their wright.
