This is the anniversary of the opening of Carnegie Hall in 1891. The joke is "How do you get to Carnegie Hall? Practice, Practice, Practice" It was almost destroyed in 1958 to make way for a sky scraper. It was saved by violinist Isaac Stern. Isaac is the Father of Michael Stern the conductor of the Kansas City Symphony.
It was designed by American architect William Tuthill. Until 1962 it was the main concert hall of the New York Philharmonic when they moved to Lincoln Center. It was financed by Andrew Carnegie. The hall is divided in to three auditoriums : Stern Auditorium, Zankel Hall and Weill Recital Hall.
